"A Beacon of Light

for the Community"
About Us...
The Taw Caw Community Outreach Center provides programs that help address the needs of the rural areas in Clarendon County, South Carolina. Our vision is to strengthen families and community through the services that we offer. We were founded in 2006 and we are governed by a non-profit board of directors comprised of community members. The organization works together with the community to address issues of concern and to bring cultural and art programing to the community. Taw Caw is located in Summerton, South Carolina, 10 miles from the county seat which is Manning, South Carolina. The organization is well respected and has been able to enter into successful partnerships and relationships with other local and state-wide institutions in order to enhance the strength of community and address some of the most pressing community issues.
We provide literacy training, programming in the arts, services for children and youth, and senior services. We recently completed construction on a one million dollar rural outreach facility which allows us to provide services and programs in a state of the art rural outreach facility. The facility is used for cultural and art programs, culinary arts instruction, exercise and fitness, festivals and fairs, literacy training, mobile book mobile (through the Clarendon County Library) and through an Apple Mac Lab, we will soon offer a well -designed technology training program. The location of the center makes it a hub for gatherings, communication, and access to community information.
We realized early on in our history that the solutions to our community development needs are best achieved in collaboration with other agencies. Therefore we work closely with faith based leaders, senior care, literacy experts, schools and community educators, and health agencies. We provide a large county-wide health fair each year, an arts camp for children, performance/music productions, and fundraising events. We are particularly adept at outreach, marketing and PR.
We have a strong and committed group of volunteers. We also have a highly effective committee structure in place consisting of program, PR & marketing, fundraising, membership, technology, budget and finance, and board development/nominating. Our Executive Committee is comprised of the Chair of the Board, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and member at large. Our services are rendered through volunteers and contractual workers. Our budget is achieved through membership, fundraising, event sales, facility rental, grants, and program fees.
